In partnership with the Tennessee STEM and Innovation Network (TSIN), we are excited to invite you to our upcoming webinar, Igniting Career Curiosity: Engaging Students in Computer Science & STEM. This webinar will be held on December 17th, 2024 at 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM CT.

This engaging session will feature Ben DiChiara, Strategic Partnerships Manager for the TSIN, as he explores the exciting collaboration between the TSIN and Defined Learning. Ben will be joined by Stephanie Zeiger, a Computer Science consultant for the TSIN, who will discuss the importance of computer science education and its relevance in preparing students for the future workforce. Additionally, Joey Hassell, CTE and STEM Director at Milan Special School District, will share insights into how computer science and STEM are integrated within the district as well as strategies for inspiring students to pursue careers in these fields. Discover how this partnership supports hands-on learning and ignites curiosity, helping students to develop critical skills for the digital age.

Ben DiChiara - Strategic Partnerships Manager, TSIN

Ben Di’Chiara currently serves as a Relationship Manager for the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network (TSIN).  Ben plays a part in several areas of the TSIN including things like online platforms, STEM school designation, the Battelle Teacher Academy (Michigan), the Statewide Design Challenge, and working with the TN Department of Education CTE division on the new rollout of STEM/PBL integration across all CTE career clusters. Ben has several years of classroom experience and served as a CTE director before joining the TSIN.  He is passionate about working with school districts.  Ben prides himself in understanding that programs should be developed with the end user in mind and works hard to make sure teachers feel comfortable with the resources they have available.

Joey Hassell currently serves as the director of career-technical education and supervisor for 9-12 teaching and learning for the Milan Special School District. He also serves as an advisor for a charter school in Memphis-Shelby County Schools, Tennessee Career Academy, that is set to open in July 2024. Prior to his current role, Hassell served as the superintendent in Haywood County Schools, TN for 5 1⁄2 years. Hassell facilitated a vision for all adults to work together to foster students’ knowledge and desire for opportunities after graduation. From January 2, 2013 – June 30, 2016, Joey was an Assistant Commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Education. Within the department, Hassell led the division of Special Populations and Student Support. Additionally, Hassell has been a special education teacher, middle school assistant principal, high school principal, and superintendent, and he has served students in these roles Lake and Lauderdale Counties
in Tennessee. In 2019 and 2012, Joey was named Superintendent of the Year for the Southwest Region of Tennessee, and in 2016, Disability Rights Tennessee recognized him with their annual Freedom Award.

Stephanie Zeiger, Ph.D., is a scientist, engineer, and educator with over 15 years of experience in STEM education and program development. With advanced degrees in nuclear and biomedical engineering, she combines her scientific expertise with a passion for designing innovative learning experiences. Stephanie has led initiatives in curriculum development, professional learning, and educational outreach designed to empower educators and inspire students. As a Computer Science Education Consultant for the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network, she develops impactful resources and training to support educators statewide, fostering inclusion and excellence in computer science education.
